On behalf of the Latino Officers Association Florida, I would like to wish all a happy and joyous fathers day. Celebrating fathers day of course has become tradition and when something becomes a ritual it loses its meaning.
What does it mean to be a Father? Any male can have children, animals teach us that. Having to be a father is a major responsibility. The bible says in Luke 12:48 "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." How great then the trust God has in us to raise children.
A Father teaches his children values. Sometimes these values are man's view of the world. Some Father's teach their children to lie, cheat, steal etc this is an acceptable value. Some educate their children at great expense to give them values and some abuse their children till they learn their father's values.
But when you follow Christ and fall upon his values you teach God's values.
When a child approaches his Father and ask for something he does it out of love even if he or she is told no. The same is with our heavily father when we ask. 1 john 5:14:15 " This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."
The meaning of a father is being a man and being a man is not weighed in man's values but God's. For this we turn to the bible when David told his son Solomon what Gods values are.
1 kings 2:1:2:3;4;5 " When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. "I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go, and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: 'If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'
