Today the United States Senate killed the "comprehensive immigration reform bill (S.1639)" by a vote of 46 to 53, forcing millions of undocumented immigrants to continue living in the shadows. The question is are Florida Latinos Democrats or Republicans ?
Lets look at one group of Latinos in Florida, Cuban Americans. Cuban Americans have been loyal Republicans since Richard Nixon mostly with regard to Cuba comes the loyalty. While other Latino groups have been a mix of liberal or Conservative Democrats, Cuban Americans stay the party line.
Today, some 4o years have past and a new Cuban American has developed. I myself being Cuban American, I was of course greatly influenced by my Family on staying loyal to the GOP, regardless of personal feelings. In reflecting on the Republican Party, I still feel that President Ronald Regan was one of the greatest President's ever. The reason for President Regan success was his level of communicating with the voter.
Communicating is something that currently is not happening with the GOP. Many issues are of course communication factors such as the war, gas prices, housing market, tax reform, housing Insurance and immigration.
Latinos identify with immigration because either they came to this country or the families did. After all this is a country of Immigrates. This is why so many Latinos are taking action, groups like "Ya es hora" http://www.yaeshora.info/
Recently in Miami Dade County, an Immigration ceremony was held at the Miami Beach Convention center and new Citizens were given an option on becoming registered voters. The results were the following:
61.5% Democrat
24.0% Republican
14.5% Independent
hmmmmm!
What makes a person take a stand on something is his or her passion on the subject. With so many Latinos feeling disenfranchised over immigration you have to wonder. A nation of Aliens with no compassion.
Enclosing the word of God always answers any question on any matter. Ex 23:9 Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt.
