Greetings Mr. Quinn.
We find ourselves writing this letter, to point out a grievous error within your recent employee City newsletter. Our intent is to correct this disturbing comment and not affix blame on any one person. The newsletter addresses’ a section called " employee spotlights", and promulgates Officer Ivy Severance, stating the following:
"Ivy Severance was hired on February 4, 2008, as a Police Officer. She was born in New York, raised in Puerto Rico, and moved to Florida in 1993. She can speak Spanish, bad English, and a little Portuguese. She has two daughters, and loves to travel and cook".
Although we are pleased that the City is taken the time to recognize the law enforcement and the Latino community, errors like this, conduct more harm than good. Officer Severance, is unaware of our involvement in asking for the correction, because as stated before, our intent is to correct and not blame.
Mr. Quinn, Lake County has approximately 10.6% Latinos, which I’m sure many would find the comment distasteful. We also would like to congratulate Officer Severance for being a police officer, a mom, and finding the ability to speak a language, which is not her native spoken one.
May the Lord, whom we serve, continue to bless the City of Mount Dora.
"LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago". Isaiah 25:1
"Jehová, tú eres mi Dios; te exaltaré, alabaré tu nombre, porque has hecho maravillas; tus consejos antiguos son verdad y firmeza
