Latino POLICE Radio: Presented by the Latino Officer's Association Florida PAC:
Friday May 13, 2011: 0930 Julio Robaina for Miami Dade County District 7.

Born in Miami and raised in the City of South Miami, former State Representative Julio Robaina is no stranger to public service. Retired from AT&T after 31 years of service, Julio Robaina continues to serve the citizens of Miami-Dade County. Throughout his life, Representative Robaina has never stopped searching for ways to further involve himself in his community.

Representative Robaina has a long history of service to the community. In his tenure as the first Hispanic Mayor of the City of South Miami, the Honorable Julio Robaina proactively addressed changes and challenges unprecedented in the modern history of South Miami. Under his stewardship, the City of South Miami was one of the top ten cities in the United States in 2001 to receive the honor of being named “All-America City” by the National Civic League. The revitalization of the City of South Miami's Downtown District was as a result of Mayor Robaina’s vision in the late 1990s.

As an effort to work directly with the community, former Representative Robaina serves on the boards of the following groups: American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Film and Entertainment Advisory Board, Habitat for Humanity, The Miami-Dade County Public Health Trust Selection Committee and Informed Families. He previously served as the Chair of Hands on Miami and as a board member of both The Children’s Trust and Special Olympics of Miami-Dade County.

After proudly serving the City of South Miami, Julio Robaina was elected to the Florida House of Representatives for District 117 on November 5, 2002. During his first term as a representative, he served on the following committees: Local Government Council, Health & Families Council, Health Care General Committee, State Administration Appropriations Committee, Transportation Committee and the Select Committee to Protect Private Property Rights.

During the legislative term of 2002-2004, he was assigned Chair of the Select Committee on Condominium Association Governance, and Vice Chair of Local Government & Veterans Affairs. He served on several committees including: Business Regulation, Health Care, Transportation, Select Committee on Florida's Economic Future, Select Committee to Protect Private Property Rights and the Subcommittee on Energy. As Representative, he also served as the Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation in 2005.

Unopposed, Representative Robaina was re-elected in 2004-2008. During these four years, he served on the following committees: Health Quality, Government Efficiency & Accountability Council and served as Chair of Urban & Local Affairs. As a pending issue in the state of Florida, Representative Robaina was appointed as the Chairman of the Select Committee on Condominium and Homeowner’s Association Governance. Representative Robaina has always been at the forefront of establishing laws to protect the consumers of the State of Florida and will surely continue to work in favor of his constituents, as he has been doing for the past decade.

As a vigilant public servant for District 117, Representative Robaina was elected for his final term to the Florida House of Representatives in 2008. As his priority, he protected the rights of his constituents and created laws that are still benefiting the State of Florida. In 2008 Representative Robaina was appointed as Chair of the Criminal & Civil Justice Policy Council and served on the Full Appropriations Council on General Government & Health Care, Government Accountability Act Council, Health & Family Services Policy Council, the Policy Council, and the Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review.

During his final years in the House of Representatives, Representative Robaina served as Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Everglades Oversight, Government Accountability Act Council, Public Safety & Domestic Security Policy Committee, Roads, Bridges, & Ports Policy Committee, and the Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review from 2009 through 2010.

Representative Robaina is running for Miami-Dade Commission District 7 and he is seeking your support. Julio Robaina will continue to support our community, not "special interests." What an amazing place Miami-Dade County would be if we had more politicians like Julio Robaina!
