Please see below for the answers to your submitted questions from the Law Enforcement Agency Survey regarding the City of Doral Police Department (sorry for the delay). If you have any questions or need clarification, do not hesitate to call me at 786-871-1520. Thank you. – Sgt. Adam Weinberg

1. Please provide us with a workforce analysis of your agency with regard to ethnic breakdown for each sworn rank structure in your agency

· Chief of Police (1): Hispanic (1) – 100.0%

· Lieutenants (5): Hispanic (4) – 75.0%, Black (1) – 25.0%

· Sergeants (13): Hispanic (6) – 46.2%, Black (1) – 7.7%, White (6) – 46.2%

· Officers (70): Hispanic (52) – 74.3%, Black (7) – 10.0%, White (11) – 15.7%

· Reserve Officers (10): Hispanic (9) – 90.0%, White (1) – 10.0%

· Total Sworn (99): Hispanic (72) – 72.7%, Black (9) – 9.1%, White (18) – 18.2%

2. Currently who is the liaison in the agency for the Latino community?

· Chief of Police, Ricardo Gomez

3. With regard to limited English proficiency does your agency provide translation via your web site or documentation distributed in Spanish to citizens?

· Yes, we currently have documentation distributed in English and Spanish.

4. What was your agency budget for 2009?

· For the fiscal year 2009, the Police Department budget was $14,323,023.00

5. Did your agency obtain Federal funding / grants in 2009? If yes, what for and how much?

· We received the following grant funding in 2009:

· COPS Secure Schools Grant: $405,000.00

· Byrne FL Direct Grant: $8,863.00

· UASI COOP Program Grant: $40,000.00

· Byrne Recovery Act Grant: $60,171.00

· Byrne Local Grant: $14,623.00

· COPS Tech Grant: $500,000.00

6. Did your agency celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in 2009?

· The City of Doral did celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month within the community’s parks in 2009.

7. How many Latinos did your agency hire in 2009? vs the total of new hires.

· 2009 New Hire Sworn: Total: 7 vs. New Hire Hispanic: 5

8. How many Latinos were promoted in 2009?

· I Hispanic Sergeant was promoted to Lieutenant in 2009

9. Who is the highest-ranking Hispanic in your agency and what is their position?

· The Chief of Police, Ricardo Gomez

10. Did your agency participate in any Latino event in 2009? And if so which event?

· Yes, the Hispanic Heritage Celebration at International Mall, September, 2009

11. Can your agency identify the first Latino hired and when ?

· The Chief of Police, Ricardo Gomez: 07/09/2007

12. Does your agency participate in any program which detains and arrest illegals based on immigration status?

· No, there is no specific program we participate in.

13. Does the agency have Spanish speaking employees working all shifts in the Communications Division to facilitate better service to the community?

· Yes, we are dispatched by Miami-Dade Police Department and our own communications personnel as well, who have Spanish speaking ability on each shift.

14. Would your agency consider being a guest on Latino POLICE Radio, an LOA-FLA Radio program?

· With approval from our PIO/City Clerk Office, this can be discussed and considered if requested. Thank you.
