Latino Officers Association PAC position Florida Election Jan 29, 2008.

The Latino Officers Association Florida, position with the current election. Under our Political Actions Committee we have taken the following positions.

Amendment 1: To reduce taxes on your home our position is NO! here are some points brought to light.

" am in complete opposition to Amendment 1. Losing all the services just to save on average 240.00 dollars a year on taxes just don't do it for me. At times like these when you can't even go to an ATM without getting robbed or killed saving 204 bucks doesn't really seem like such a bargain." subject: Amendment 1.....where do we stand ?
Now what's really sad is that you really don't see any of the police,or fire unions rallying against Amendment 1. Why is that? I mean if you as a union leader have the possibility of losing a part of your membership dollars, don't you think they would be at the mountain top screaming to their members to protest the passing of this amendment?

As I get bombarded on the media regarding amendment 1. I would like to know where do we, the LOA-FLA PAC stand in regard to this issue? I believe this is a right wing agenda that does nothing for the working class and that we as LEO, CO'S and firefighters should vote no on this issue.
"You are all being sold a bill of goods for political expediency. The Governor campaigned on a promise that real estate taxes would come down. In order to live up to his promise he concocts a plot with the legislature to go through the different stages and come out with something palatable. The end result of their conceived conspiracy is what is on the ballot today.

The cities and counties to the contrary have enough money to ride out the so called crisis. However, and as all of you involved in politics know, whenever something like the present comes up they immediately resort to fear; yes fear. They run a fear campaign telling constituents that essential services such as police, fire, education and health will be greatly affected while being solvent and having enough funds in the General Fund Account to ride out the so-called crisis.
In the meantime no one knows about their secret IRA like stash at the State level. They are holding millions and millions of dollars of taxpayer money that could well serve to defray any loss of income from real estate tax reductions.

People are very gullible and they believe what they read and hear and thus the frantic rush to pass or defeat the current amendment. There is much more but I do not have the time to print out a document.

Remember what Samuel Adams said a long time ago: "....when people are universally ignorant, and debauched in their manners, they will sink under their own weight without the aid of..............."

Cops are not supposed to lose it this easily, they deal with facts and truth in order to arrive at an acceptable conclusion."

You are right when we say that they use scare tactics. A prime example of a scare tactic is when government officials use the expression "The budget depends on this amendment and we do not know what that will mean for salaries in the future if it does not pass". Wow, they are "messing with peoples pocket" that is enough to scare anyone into voting affirmatively for this amendment.
